Councilor Brooks said she supported the levy because the library “depends on this money.” Council President Cherilyn Pratt said losing the levy would be “devastating” to the community, and Councilor Reyes and Councilor Sacco likewise voiced support conditioned on the levy remaining consistent with the agreements discussed with member cities.
Mayor and council direction was to proceed with the proclamation request and to allow library proponents to collect signatures and materials needed for the voter pamphlet; staff said a formal resolution of support will be brought forward for the council to adopt at a subsequent meeting.
There was no recorded opposition during the council discussion. The council also noted the public safety levy effort underway in the county may seek similar city-level endorsements in the coming days.
