Chester police report shows overall declines in major crimes in first half of 2025; Safe Summer initiative credited

City of Chester police officials told the City Council on Aug. 27 that several categories of serious crimes were down in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024 and credited a summer community-policing effort with part of the decline.
Commissioner Blackwell and Sergeant Kyle Vattenieri presented Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) classifications and a month-by-month breakdown for Part I and Part II offenses. Sergeant Vattenieri gave counts and clearance numbers for homicides, aggravated assaults, burglaries, robberies, thefts and motor-vehicle thefts and stressed that clearances reflect arrests and cases sent to court.
