Parents and residents press Ocean Township board over bans from games and Pop Warner dates

Casey Zimmer, a parent from Oakhurst, said her organization had expected to be on the agenda to request four dates and that she was confused and frustrated that the dates were not approved and that she had not received administrative responses. "It's not fair. That 9 1 6 0 policy you are using for the ban, I believe, was supposed to be used from the board, not just the superintendent," Zimmer said, asking the board to reconsider the restriction that prevents her from attending a limited number of home games.
Alex Hayes, also of Oakhurst, raised broader concerns about how the board enforces decorum and whether rules are applied selectively. "Your rules are about profanity, vulgarity. People being critical of you is not not being of a decorum mindset," Hayes said, and asked when public-session questions would receive answers from the administration.
Louis Goniis, another resident who addressed the board, said members of his family had been prevented from attending games and disputed an allegation that his daughter had pushed someone at a prior meeting. Goniis told the board he and his wife had been unfairly banned and urged the board to let the matter be resolved so children could attend games.
Board President McCarthy and the presiding officer repeatedly reminded speakers that public comment is governed by the board's rules and that the superintendent's contact information is available for follow-up. The presiding officer noted that public comment is not a question-and-answer session and asked commenters to avoid personal matters during the meeting.
Speakers requested clearer communication from the administration. Zimmer said her league president had had difficulty reaching district staff and asked for written confirmation about the four requested dates. Several commenters said they wanted a prompt administrative response rather than escalating the matter.
No formal action or vote on the bans or the requested dates was taken during the meeting; the public-comment period concluded with the board asking staff to follow up through the district's usual administrative channels.
