Middle- and high-school construction updates: paving, field work and science wing occupancy reported

School officials updated the committee on progress at ongoing construction projects at the middle and high schools.
For the middle school, the town scheduled paving of the E Street sidewalk for the 29th and contractor Fontaine will return the following week to complete field work including fencing and fabric. The district said the varsity field renovation — approved at the School Building Committee meeting — is scheduled to begin in mid-September. Project managers from Vertex are expected to process final invoices this fall, which the district said will trigger the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) closeout process; the district noted the MSBA final audit typically takes around two years.
At the high school, the science wing is substantially complete and the district received a temporary certificate of occupancy; furniture and technology installations are complete and the wing was in use for the start of school. Paving is finished, with striping scheduled for the coming weekend. The construction fence was relocated to fully enclose the field house and adjacent construction areas; district staff said the field house will remain enclosed until its anticipated completion in December.
Committee members who toured the sites praised the work and said teachers and students have reported positive feedback on the new science wing. No new votes were taken as part of these project updates during the meeting.
