The Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Commission on Aug. 27, 2025, approved removing a city-maintained lehi (lemon) bottlebrush street tree at 460 Foxon Drive after the Street Tree Advisory Committee recommended removal tied to planned driveway work.
The committee reviewed building plans that show the property owner will flip and reconfigure the driveway so the new entrance conflicts with the tree. "The committee made a recommendation to approve the removal on the condition that a construction permit be issued for the installation of the driveway at 460 Foxon Drive," the staff presenter said.
Committee members noted the tree was in reasonable health and that nearby mature trees left little practical space for a mitigation planting. The commission’s approval requires the applicant to obtain a construction permit from Public Works before removal may take place, a condition intended to ensure the driveway work is actively permitted before removal occurs.
No public speakers addressed this item. The commission voted to approve the removal under the stated condition.
