Jeremy Spencer, president of the Community Foundation for Dixon County, presented grant totals and highlighted projects funded in the district, including a kiln, greenhouse and mobile library support.
Jeremy Spencer, president of the Community Foundation for Dixon County, told the Dixon County Board of Education on Aug. 28 that the foundation recently awarded $71,380 in grants to local organizations and that total grantmaking for the foundation now exceeds $908,935 since inception.
Spencer said the foundation has given more than $306,000 to Dixon County Schools over 25 years; this year the district received $36,495. He described specific school projects funded in the current cycle: a full replacement kiln for the high school art department, a greenhouse for Dixon Elementary, $5,000 in books for a mobile library and book-bus program, and grants supporting new fraction and visual-arts curricula and the Leader in Me program at Oakmont Elementary.
"This is the fruits of your community and the people that believe in and support our mission," Spencer said, urging board members and staff to promote awareness of the foundation to increase future support.
Spencer also said the foundation is operating from an endowment of more than $1.4 million and that the board had provided meeting members with a list of recipients and award descriptions.
Dr. Sutherland and board members thanked Spencer and noted appreciation for the foundation's support.
