Members of the Police Station Building Committee discussed IT integration, radio systems and communications infrastructure for the new Town of Lakeville police station on Oct. 3.
Committee members said the town is planning a townwide IT solution to be housed, in part, in a dedicated space at the police station. Staff described a small subcommittee or advisory group that will handle sensitive plan details and recommended convening coordination meetings once interior walls are installed so vendors, security and town IT can confirm conduit and outlet locations before areas are boarded up.
The committee was also briefed on a forthcoming radio RFP and weekly coordination with E-911 dispatch. The radio consultant was asked to attend a future meeting where radio vendor pricing and dispatch console requirements will be discussed.
The committee discussed Lake Cam (the town's cable/broadcast service) and a request to run fiber from the new police station to the library to support live broadcasting. Committee members said Verizon would not supply all the conduit as initially expected, so the project team has added conduit and handholes on the campus to provide a separate fiber path that will not touch the police station's primary network. Staff is coordinating with TMLP about fiber runs and firewall placement; the committee was advised there may be costs associated with that work.
Members raised operational concerns about Lake Cam access and the need for a fail-safe control so the town can disable a feed during training or other nonpublic activities. The committee also discussed establishing an agreement with a generator rental company to ensure rapid delivery of a temporary generator if the station's own emergency generator fails. That docking arrangement would be a town-level procurement or contract to expedite service, not part of construction scope.
No formal action was taken on these items; staff and selected vendors were asked to schedule follow-up system coordination meetings.
