Wauwatosa council adds Sept. 9, 2025 meeting to hear consultant on possible fire-department merger

Wauwatosa — The Wauwatosa Common Council unanimously approved an amendment to its 2025 meeting calendar to add a regular Common Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, so the full council can hear a consultant presentation on a potential merger involving local fire services.

City staff and councilors said the consultant’s presentation concerns work on a potential merger between the City of Wauwatosa and the City of West Dallas Fire Department, and that holding a full council meeting would ensure the mayor and all council members can hear the consultant’s findings. The added meeting falls on a night that also may include regular committee meetings, including a possible Financial Affairs meeting related to the budget process.

Mr. Archambault (city administration) told the council that the presentation is preferable to be heard by the whole council rather than only committee members. Alder McLough asked whether the meeting would be limited to a presentation and was told the meeting would be a regular council meeting allowing for the mayor’s participation under state statute; no formal action was scheduled for that date.

Alder Franzen seconded the motion to amend the calendar; the measure passed unanimously by voice vote.

City staff said that if formal action becomes necessary after the presentation, that would be scheduled according to the council’s normal rules.
