Community Development reports higher year‑to‑date permit valuation and active housing starts

At the Aug. 27 meeting the Planning Commission received the Community Development monthly report for the period ending Aug. 25. Staff said permit valuation for the month was roughly $14 million and year‑to‑date valuation reached approximately $169 million.

Highlights: The report noted 29 housing starts for the month and a total of 417 housing starts for 2025 as of Aug. 25, with multifamily activity including a recent permit for Stafford Way Apartments. Staff also presented a six‑year comparison showing that the 2025 year‑to‑date valuation had surpassed the 2021 year‑to‑date value at the same point in the year.

Code enforcement and licensing: Staff reported 87 code enforcement cases opened and 125 cases closed in August (through Aug. 25). Proactive enforcement included weed complaints, illegal signs, and parking enforcement; six parking citations and four RV tows were recorded. The department issued three liquor licenses and 51 business licenses during the period; staff noted an upcoming Sprouts grocery store opening.

Events and outreach: Community Development listed upcoming meetings and events, including a Sept. 3 community meeting on proposed building and fire code updates and the Sept. 24 Planning Commission meeting. Staff also summarized a recent post‑master‑plan listening tour with three sessions and said two formal requests to review master plan land‑use designations would return to the commission.
