Stembeck presented two goals aligned to Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) standards: Goal 1 (MSBA standard 3) to "foster meaningful and reciprocal relationships with the community including students, staff, families, local organizations, legislatures, [and] local elected officials," and Goal 2 (MSBA standard 5) to "cultivate a collaborative school district culture by providing all staff with regular meaningful opportunities to share input, influence decisions, and engage in continuous school improvement efforts." She said the board will have a midyear check-in and an end-of-year check-in on progress.
Board members spoke in favor of the goals and noted that staff survey feedback informed the focus on staff engagement. "I do want to commend you about listening to a lot of the survey from the staff, especially with regards to whether or not they felt like they were part of the decision-making process," Laura (Board member) said. Another board member underscored that selecting two focus goals for the year does not mean the superintendent is not pursuing other MSBA recommended standards.
The board moved and seconded the motion and approved the superintendent's goals by voice vote. The board said it will monitor progress through the planned midyear and year-end check-ins and through regular reporting at board meetings.
