During discussion, the board acknowledged receipt of emails pointing out multiple errors. "We do have to adopt that safety plan before school starts. So tabling it may is not an option," a board member said during the meeting. Administrators recommended adopting the plan and then making clerical corrections immediately while scheduling committee review for any substantive procedural changes.
The board identified specific non-substantive corrections to be made before finalization: removal of duplicated paragraphs (for example, a duplicated "student roundtable" reference), deletion of an unnecessary date in an appendix, replacing a sample URL with the district's website address, and minor wording cleanups where template language did not match district practice. The board said those typographical and template errors would be fixed as part of the adopted amendment.
The district noted one substantive concern raised in public comment about visitor badge procedures for entering and exiting buildings. The board said that procedural point is part of the plan and that further substantive changes would be considered by the committee and may require another public hearing if adopted.
Board member remarks in the meeting identified who drafted the plan: "Miss Massaro put this together with the committee, but the committee there was a large committee of people who were involved," an administrator said.
A motion to adopt the plan as amended was made and seconded; the board voted to approve the measure. The district said it will make the clerical corrections immediately and return substantive changes to the safety-committee process; it also said the district must have an adopted plan in place before the first day of school.
