Board reviews design development for Galena Park High School phases 3–5; field house construction underway

The Galena Park Independent School District Board of Trustees received a design development presentation Aug. 26, 2025, for the Galena Park High School master plan covering phases 3 through 5. PBK Architects presented refined floor plans, exterior elevations, interior finishes and a construction phasing and schedule.

Ed Martier, director of facilities, planning and construction, introduced PBK’s team, which included Manuel (Manny) Torres and design leads from PBK Architects, Inc. Presenters walked trustees through the master plan: a three‑story classroom wing and multipurpose building connected to existing Phase 2 work (dining commons, CTE), a fine arts wing and new auditorium off Parkside Drive, multiple practice fields and a detached athletics complex adjacent to Dement Field. The project retains an existing pedestrian bridge (skywalk) with proposed receiving improvements on the field side.

The team said the field house at Dement Field is now in construction and that the project will be completed by a series of subphases. Board members and community speakers praised the design and asked clarifying questions about the existing Arthur C. Lilly building bridge, the inclusion of batting cages and practice-field infield layouts for baseball/softball practice. Presenters confirmed the Lily building spelling correction and said the batting cages will be adjacent to the Lily building parking lot. The board thanked the PBK team for community engagement and attention to preserving school history.
