Lincoln Public Schools board congratulates two staff members honored statewide and nationally

The Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education on Aug. 26 adopted resolutions honoring two district staff members for recent awards.
Kristen Vest, family and consumer sciences curriculum coordinator for Lincoln Public Schools, received the Nebraska Association of Family and Consumer Sciences LEADER Award. The board read a resolution recognizing Vest’s leadership and work strengthening curriculum and professional development across the district and congratulated her in a unanimous roll-call vote.
“Family and consumer sciences in Lincoln Public Schools is a growing CTE program, which integrates family and career readiness with technical skill instruction within a critical science perspective,” Kristen Vest said after the board presented the resolution. She described recent curriculum alignment work and the launch this fall of three new courses — human development, families and relationships, and education and teaching — aimed at preparing students for postsecondary options and the local workforce.
The board also adopted a resolution honoring Wendy Rowe, the district’s health services director, who was named a National Academy of School Nursing Fellow by the National Association of School Nurses. The resolution and Rowe’s acceptance remarks highlighted the district’s health services work, including a multi-tiered system of support in school health offices, a school nurse mentorship program and district publications and presentations on best practices.
“This recognition is a testament not to one person, but to a collective effort and the shared vision of our health services team,” Wendy Rowe said. She thanked district leaders and named colleagues who contributed to the health services program’s work.
Both resolutions were presented during the board’s “special reports, presentations and celebrations of success” agenda item and were approved by roll call with all board members voting in favor.
Board members offered brief remarks of appreciation following each presentation, noting the district investments in facilities and staff that supported the programs Vest and Rowe oversee. The recognitions do not create policy changes; they record the board’s formal congratulations and public acknowledgment of the recipients’ awards.
