The Parks Committee on Sept. 15 approved entering a contract with bassist Victor Wooten and authorized staff to pursue a Sam Bush booking for the Park Theater, and accepted several rental agreements for community events.
The committee voted to enter a $10,000 performance agreement with Victor Wooten, with staff noting an additional $5,000 “do-not-exceed” line in the event budget to cover ancillary expenses such as PA, meals and emergency needs. Committee members made and seconded the motion and chair confirmation of the vote followed with “Aye” and “That passes.”
On a separate item, staff asked committee permission to proceed with a prospective booking for Sam Bush. Staff said the packet listed an asking price shown as “$17.05” and recommended budgeting an extra $5,000 for incidentals; they said full confirmation from the artist’s side was still pending. Committee members moved to forward the request to the full board for final approval.
The committee also acknowledged notifications and accepted standard rental agreements for two community events at the Park Theater. Committee members approved rental terms for Heart at the Park; board member Steve Harvey disclosed an affiliation with the event organizer and abstained from that specific vote. The committee approved a rental request from the McBeeville Children’s Museum for a New Year’s Eve event and noted that the Park Theater manager said no city funds would pay performers, and that if he performs he would be off duty and assistant manager Ashley would run the show.
Committee members emphasized that the $5,000 line is a contingency for event incidentals and that staff expects actual costs to be lower. Committee discussion described the Sam Bush booking as higher-cost relative to recent programming but not the most expensive the venue has hosted. No formal financial guarantees for projected ticket revenue were made.
The committee chair closed the Parks business after confirming motions had passed and that items requiring further approval would go to the full board as noted.
