The City Council voted to execute construction and construction-management and inspection contracts for Community Center Park Phase 1, which includes a roughly 16,000-square-foot skate park, circulation pathways, fencing, storm drain, water and pathway lighting.
City project manager Araceli told council the phase also includes hardscape and utility work; staff are seeking a budget augmentation to make the contract whole while pursuing additional grant funding from Placer County Park funds and environmental mitigations that could reduce the city’s augmentation request.
Council members repeatedly described the skate park as a long-standing community priority after the old facility was removed in 2020–21. The approved schematic includes features for advanced skaters and separate areas appropriate for younger children and riders of different abilities. Council members and staff said the design team consulted with professional skateboarders and local user groups.
Max Moon of the Lincoln Skate and Bike Association and members of the public urged building a high-quality facility at the community center rather than a temporary or lower-grade installation. Council and staff said lighting and other site elements were deliberately included to keep the park safe, usable during evening hours and attractive from Joiner Road.
The motion to approve the construction and related inspection contracts passed by roll call with all voting members recorded as yes.
Staff said the city expects to proceed with contractor selection and to schedule a groundbreaking once final contract and grant funding details are resolved.
