Commission approves RLF support for On Fire Mexican Bar & Grill renovations at 209 N. Broadway

The Pittsburg City Commission approved a pair of revolving loan fund allocations to support restoration of the building at 209 North Broadway, where the applicant plans to open On Fire Mexican Bar & Grill.
City staff presented an EDAC recommendation to support phase 1 with up to $46,000 (approximately 10% of an estimated $455,900 phase-1 cost) and to reserve up to $32,000 for a later phase 2 (roughly 10% of the estimated $323,000 phase-2 cost). Staff said the city’s usual practice is to fund fixed building improvements, not movable items, and disbursement is contingent on documentation of eligible expenditures.
Chris Cross, of Cross Construction, attended to answer contractor questions. An owner/applicant identified herself as Astrid and said anticipated nearby development and new university facilities will support the restaurant, and that parking will be available in nearby public lots.
Commission discussion touched on demand and parking; commissioners noted the college’s new building and public parking would provide spaces during off-class hours. One commissioner noted the city is incentivizing building fixes rather than paying for signage or other nonpermanent items.
A motion to approve the EDAC recommendation passed by voice vote. Commissioner Chuck moved; Commissioner Stu seconded. The mayor declared the motion carried. Commissioner Cheryl recused herself from the vote and noted her company is the plumbing contractor on the job.
City staff said the RLF disbursements will be verified against invoices and that funds are meant to incentivize building rehabilitation and job creation.
