Commissioners DeGroot, Minty and Nichols were present for the votes.
The board approved a $15,000 economic development contribution to Klamath IDEA. A commissioner moved to "support Klamath IDEA at the $15,000 level paid for out of economic development funds" and the motion passed by voice vote; the chair recorded an "aye" and the motion was declared passed.
The board approved a two-year, $50,000 commitment from the tourism fund to support a bronze statue near Lake Ewana (requested as $25,000 per year). The board also heard that the project's tourism grant application had previously been denied by the tourism committee, and some commissioners expressed concern about the perception of fairness when the board funds a project that the tourism committee did not recommend.
The board approved adding a MassMutual whole-life insurance product to the county's voluntary payroll-deduction benefit options. Staff said the change would give employees another option and would be implemented through payroll deductions.
The board approved payment of Eastern Oregon County Association dues up to $10,000 from the general fund.
None of the four matters required an ordinance or a public hearing; all were approved by voice vote during the finance meeting.
