CVCC chair asks council for regular updates, says community college is a workforce pipeline

Dr. Justin Hensley, chair of the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) local advisory board, used public comment to reintroduce the college's role to council and ask for a renewed, regular connection between the advisory board and the council that appoints its members.
"CVCC is your community college serving thousands of Lynchburg residents through workforce training, academic programs, and dual enrollment," Hensley said. He outlined CVCC's work training workers for industries including industrial maintenance, health care, cybersecurity and logistics, and said the board intends to provide brief updates to council about once a quarter to maintain communication and visibility.
Hensley noted that CVCC has trained nurses, technicians, business owners and tradespeople since it opened in 1967 and that the local advisory board's bylaws call for maintaining strong relationships with appointing jurisdictions. He said the board will start a pattern of periodic updates so councilors understand CVCC's workforce and education contributions.
Council did not take formal action on the presentation; the remarks were informational and intended to improve ongoing coordination between CVCC and city leadership.
