Commissioners warned of insurance risk-pool hit of roughly $800,000; TRPC executive director recruitment underway

Thurston County commissioners were told at their July 30 check-in that the county will face an insurance-rate increase from its risk pool that could total roughly $800,000.
“...we're going to be getting an 800,000 Plus hit,” a commissioner reported, saying the increase reflected new cases in the pool and that the rise is being borne broadly across member jurisdictions.
Commissioners were advised to factor the increase into the county’s budget process. One commissioner said the county previously was hit harder than other members of the pool in earlier years, and that rate changes have affected the county’s budget.
Separately, commissioners discussed recruitment for the Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) executive director. They said the council has hired a recruitment firm and that Steve Worthington will lead the search from the firm. Commissioners said the job description, approved salary range and a candidate profile survey have been provided to the search firm; a subcommittee on recruitment is scheduled to meet next Monday.
No formal vote or budget appropriation was taken at the check-in. Commissioners described these as informational updates intended to guide the upcoming budget and personnel work.
The county manager and other staff agreed to follow up with more detailed budget figures and timelines during the budget process.
