The appointment followed an executive session held under Oregon public meeting law to discuss employment and labor negotiations. The board cited ORS 192.660(2)(a) for consideration of employment of a public officer or employee and ORS 192.660(2)(d) for deliberations related to labor negotiations before returning to public session and taking the appointment vote.
The board said it will use the OSBA contract to conduct a formal search and that Roberts will serve while the search is underway. The motion did not specify contract length beyond the 2025-26 school year appointment, and board members said administrative details will be finalized with Roberts and staff before executing paperwork.
