Shawnee County commissioners approved a slate of routine and new-business items during their July 28 meeting, voting unanimously on the consent agenda, voucher payments, a number of personnel-status requests and several procurement actions.
The commission opened with a lengthy consent agenda, which passed by a voice vote of 3-0. Commissioners separately approved a voucher report totaling $3,616,662.76 that included a $1,133,108.70 payment to Bet Us Asphalt Construction for a road improvement project on Northwest 46 between Fielding and Rochester Roads, paid from the infrastructure fund.
Other unanimous approvals included motions to: keep several vacant positions idled with the exception of reinstating a bridge maintenance position in Public Works; keep an electronic archiving specialist position in the Register of Deeds open for recruitment; authorize a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the Health Department with United Way to serve as fiscal agent for an Early Childhood Block Grant award of $255,384; acknowledge and accept a single responsive bid from Zybex Systems Inc. for the county—s main and backup 9-1-1 consoles at $1,030,903.05 to be paid from ARPA SLFRF interest funds; and authorize Parks and Recreation to issue multiple requests for proposals for site preparation work related to Gage Park Playland and the Sky Trail after an initial, single general-contractor RFP drew no bids.
The commission also voted to cancel the July 31 work session because members will be on a city swap visit to Lincoln, Nebraska. All recorded motions passed by a 3-0 tally unless otherwise noted in the meeting record.
The meeting concluded with administrative updates and a lengthy budget discussion; commissioners directed staff to return next week with department heads prepared to discuss specific reductions and to calculate the effect of potential across-the-board percentage cuts.
