Commission grants 6‑month extension for Howard County community solar project

Staff said the filing sought extra time because county permitting and construction of the interconnection required relocation of some equipment and conduit. The project consists of four co‑located arrays totaling 1.4 megawatts at 4350 Montgomery Road in Howard County. Staff noted the project paid a refundable deposit with Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. in 2024 to retain its queue position and found good cause to grant the extension because construction was underway and the project is expected online this year.
The developer’s representative said subscriptions have begun and the aggregator Neighborhood Sun has notified prospective subscribers that construction is underway.
The commission approved the requested waiver and six‑month extension; the motion carried with all commissioners voting aye.
Why it matters: the extension preserves a community solar project that supports low- and moderate‑income subscriber credits under Maryland’s community solar program while allowing the project additional time to complete permitting and interconnection work.
