Kuna commission approves zoning text amendment to consolidate planning application requirements

The Kuna City Planning and Zoning Commission voted to approve a zoning text amendment that consolidates application submittal requirements into a single code section and creates a formal process for updating planning and zoning application forms.

Doug Hansen, Kuna City planning and zoning director, told the commission that current submittal requirements are scattered across multiple code sections and sometimes contain conflicting language. "By limiting the application submittal requirements to one code section, confusion surrounding application submittals will be alleviated for both applicants submitting their applications and staff review," Hansen said. He added the amendment establishes a procedure for updating application forms and that, if approved, "all planning and zoning application form updates will be heard by the city council as a public meeting item for their approval."

No members of the public signed up to testify on the item. After brief deliberation in which commissioners described the amendment as a cleanup and simplification of redundant language, a commissioner moved to approve the amendment; another commissioner seconded. The chair called for the vote and commissioners responded "Aye." No opposition was voiced and the motion passed.

The amendment, as described by staff, will move existing submittal requirements into a single code section and require any future updates to application forms to be presented to the Kuna City Council in a public meeting for consideration. The commission did not record a formal roll-call vote in the transcript; the meeting record reflects verbal approval with no noted dissent.
