Bangor City Council elected Councilor Fournier as council chair for the remainder of the 02/2425 council year at a special meeting called at 5:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, Solicitor David Stepchak said.
The council opened nominations for chair under new business (Order 25-270-1). Two candidates were nominated; Councilor Fournier and Councilor Beck each had an opportunity to speak before the council. Councilor Fournier said she previously served as mayor for two years and offered that she was prepared to serve. Councilor Beck described her recent civic involvement and said, “I’m offering steady, fair, collaborative leadership as we finish our year of building, and I’m asking for your vote to serve on as the city council chair.”
After nominations were closed by motion, the city clerk called the roll. The clerk announced the result as “5 for Fournier, 2 for Beck,” and Councilor Fournier was declared elected to serve the remainder of the 02/2425 council year. Solicitor David Stepchak then noted that three regular meetings remain in the council year and said the agenda set by the previous chair, focusing primarily on housing, will guide the remaining work.
The meeting was brief and limited to the single agenda item. The pledge of allegiance was led before business began; the city clerk conducted the roll call and read the vote tally. No ordinances, resolutions, or other formal actions were taken at the meeting.
