Riley County schedules asphalt overlays on six roads starting Aug. 25; traffic control planned

John Ellerin, Riley County public works, briefed the commission on Aug. 11 about the county’s asphalt overlay program for 2025. He listed the roads included in the project: Rosencutter Road, Hinton Road, Momen Road, South Manhattan Avenue, Stag Hill and Skyway Drive.
Ellerin said traffic-control measures will be in place and that the overlay contract is expected to run for roughly 25 working days with work scheduled to begin Aug. 25 and an anticipated completion date around Sept. 29.
Ellerin and other public works staff also updated the board on several related projects: a delivery delay for elevator parts (expected around Sept. 24) that has pushed some timelines, routine chip-sealing work that required rework in places, a transfer-station closure for cleaning on Aug. 16, and ongoing site work connected to a new Amazon-related project that will increase truck traffic along portions of Skyway and Wildcat.
Public works said crews continue grading roads, cleaning ditches and culverts, pursuing CDL tests for staff, and addressing building maintenance items. Staff asked the public to follow posted traffic controls once road work begins.
Ending: Ellerin said crews will continue routine maintenance while the overlay contractor completes the scheduled resurfacing; contractors will post detours and traffic controls as needed.
