The Bloomington City Redevelopment Commission approved key terms of a negotiated lease termination with Bloomington Health Foundation, Inc., on Sept. 2.
Staff said the RDC would waive lease payments for August, September and up to Oct. 15, the foundation would vacate the premises by Oct. 15, 2025, and the RDC would pay a moving allowance of $19,542.50 to assist the nonprofit with relocation. A commissioner announced a recusal at the start of the item because of board membership on the foundation; the recusal was noted before discussion.
Staff described the foundation as a local community partner and said negotiations considered higher relocation costs the nonprofit would face because of increased rent and parking in a new location. The commission recorded one abstention on the final vote; staff said they reviewed the moving cost estimate and found it reasonable. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with one abstention recorded in the minutes.
Why it matters: the settlement supports a local nonprofit’s relocation while returning Showers West space for the RDC’s reuse plans. The commission noted the foundation intends to remain local and will work with community partners on moving and operations.
