Redeema Pandey sworn in as student representative; peer leaders and community partners report school activities and programs

Redeema Pandey was sworn in as the Lawrence Township Board of Education—s student representative. The board conducted a ceremonial oath during the meeting and invited Pandey to take the student representative seat.

Several student peer leaders then gave brief reports. Carter Edwards, a senior, described the freshman orientation sessions held in August and upcoming freshman seminars. Nick Bonskevich promoted upcoming football games including a pink-out breast-cancer-awareness game and senior night on Oct. 3, and noted homecoming events. Safal Maharajan reported the boys' soccer team was 2-0. Aiden Burns said peer leadership would host Back-to-School Night on Sept. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. A senior student, Joshua, described a two-day school AI program that introduced students to the platform and encouraged discussion about responsible classroom use. Students also highlighted that a restructured phone policy is giving teachers flexibility and that the marching band of more than 50 students had performed early in the season.

During the public-comment period, Kaia King Green, who identified herself as executive director of Every Child Valued (ECV), introduced the organization to the board and thanked the district for extending ECV—s contract to cover K-8 services. King Green described prior experience as an educator and homeschooling provider, said ECV seeks to align after-school programming with classroom best practices, and called for additional training on Lexile/Quantile data so the after-school program can mirror in-school instructional goals. Neil Desai and district staff told the board they have met with ECV to provide additional training and to align assessments and student learning portfolios.

The board and district staff invited the student representatives and community partners to remain involved with upcoming meetings and community events.
