The Alabama State Board of Education at its June 8, 2023 meeting approved routine meeting items and unanimously adopted several resolutions and changes to the Alabama Administrative Code affecting educator programs and school personnel training.
Board members approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from the May 11, 2023 meeting by voice vote. The board then approved a ceremonial resolution honoring David G. Bronner (see separate item).
The board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution approving an "innovative Class AA mathematics specialist education program" at the University of Alabama. Members also unanimously approved a resolution authorizing review of an educator preparation program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The board adopted two changes to the Alabama Administrative Code: rule 290-08-030-0.05, pertaining to school-based child nutrition program personnel; and rule 290-080-030-0.06, pertaining to continuous training requirements. Each vote was recorded as unanimous by raised hands.
All motions were seconded and carried by unanimous voice or raised-hand votes; no oppositions or abstentions were recorded on these agenda items.
