Talbot County proclaims September 2025 Alopecia Awareness Month; local walk planned at Ottawa Park

The Talbot County Council unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Alopecia Awareness Month and designated Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 as the Easton Walk for Alopecia day.
The proclamation cites the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) and describes the condition’s emotional and social impacts. The council moved and seconded the proclamation and the secretary recorded aye votes from Callahan, Stepp, Milke and Haight.
Dr. Annie Bewborn, introduced as group site leader for the Eastern Shore Alopecia Areata Foundation support group and walk site coordinator, told the council the inaugural Eastern Shore walk will be held at Ottawa Park from 9:30 to 11 a.m. She described the local group’s virtual support meetings and said the event aims to raise awareness, funds and community support.
Council members thanked the presenters and noted this is the county’s first alopecia proclamation; one member said they hoped it would become an annual recognition. The proclamation encourages community participation in the walk and local outreach activities.
Ending: The council adopted the proclamation by unanimous vote and event organizers invited residents to attend the walk at Ottawa Park on Sept. 27.
