The Haywood County Schools Board of Education recognized the retirement of Kim Jackson, the district's director of technology, and introduced Brian Wyatt as the new technology director.
"Our beloved director of technology, Kim Jackson, is retiring," Mister Haines said, and the board thanked Jackson for years of service through major events and incidents including ransomware and other challenges. The board reported it conducted a search and interviewed multiple applicants; it selected an internal candidate, Brian Wyatt, who the superintendent and staff said has worked in district technology for 21 years and served most recently as network administrator.
Brian Wyatt addressed the board: "Thank you for the opportunity to lead the technology department. I recognize I have big shoes to fill for sure. I'm ready for the challenge." Board members congratulated Jackson and Wyatt and said they will arrange a future recognition event for the retiring director.
The presentation was a personnel recognition and appointment; the transcript records congratulations and no formal vote was required at this meeting.
