Lake County 9-1-1 dispatchers earn top score in ISO emergency communications review

Lake County’s 9-1-1 emergency dispatch center earned top marks in its recent Insurance Services Office (ISO) evaluation, county and fire department officials said Sept. 23.
Chief Kevin Carroll, president of the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, briefed commissioners about the ISO public protection classification process. He said the ISO evaluates four areas — community risk reduction, the water system, fire department capabilities and emergency communications — and that those scores together affect insurance classification for residents and businesses.
Carroll reported that Lake County's emergency communications performed at the top tier in the recent evaluation. "Our Lake County emergency dispatchers ... earned a total 10 out of 10 points," Carroll said at the podium, outlining the component scores: emergency reporting earned a top score, telecommunicators received a 4 in their category, and dispatch circuits earned the highest rating in their group. Carroll said the final result will take effect Nov. 1.
Clermont Fire Chief David Ezell, vice president of the fire chiefs association, said external validation by ISO confirms operational practices and helps keep insurance rates lower for residents and businesses. He added the evaluation process raised performance standards across municipal and county agencies.
County officials and chiefs publicly thanked Chief Stevens and the dispatch team for their role in emergency response coordination and for supporting firefighters and medical responders in the field.
The board recognized the dispatchers during the Sept. 23 meeting with members of the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association and with remarks from county public-safety staff.
