Lancaster County fire commission reviews budget, FirstView rollout, staffing and equipment needs

Lancaster County Fire Commission members met Aug. 7 to review budget details, the rollout of the FirstView incident-reporting system, equipment maintenance needs and staffing plans, and to hear that the department head plans to remain until January to help complete a station opening.

The meeting centered on operational readiness and administrative changes that the commission said will affect stipend payments and national reporting. Bill, the fire director, told commissioners a $50,000 line item in the commission budget is set aside “to do any upgrades that need to be done to the house, particularly to buy appliances, furniture, bedroom furniture, that kind of thing, to get it ready to occupy and for people to be able to sleep there.” He said the budget also includes an additional captain position and that the county administrator will determine when the department can post for those positions.
