Fort Wayne parks staff outline summer participation, dozens of capital projects and playground replacements

Fort Wayne Parks Department staff presented a summary of this year’s programs and capital projects at the Sept. 16 Fort Wayne Common Council committee session, emphasizing high summer participation, ongoing playground replacements and several neighborhood-driven master plans.

The presentation, given to the council during the committee meeting, said the department manages 89 parks totaling about 2,840 acres and runs more than 1,500 programs a year, ranging from camps and aquatics to arts and senior programming. Staff highlighted summer camp and skills-program statistics, work on multiple playground replacements, the Headwaters Park splash pad renovation and planned riverfront Phase 2 work along Harrison Street.
