Housing Advisory Board forms homelessness subcommittee, urges city to explore shared-housing services

At the Sept. 4 City Council meeting, Philip Ogren delivered an update from the Housing Advisory Board (HAB), which unanimously approved the statement he read and announced two items: formation of a HAB subcommittee on homelessness and a recommendation to explore shared-housing solutions.
Ogren said HAB will review the recently released CLUTCH consulting report on homelessness and expected to make recommendations to council on housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness. He also summarized a March HAB panel focused on shared housing, noting demographic and economic trends that have left many large homes occupied by one or two people. HAB participants included local advocates and providers such as Anne Marie Pluhar (Sharing Housing), Anne Marie Parsons (Boulder Housing Coalition), Bree Erger (LiveWork Denver), and Savinia Falkwis (Home Share Oregon).
The HAB recommended options including increased education on shared housing, investigating a housemate-matching service, and improving data collection to inform housing policy. Council members thanked HAB for the update and said staff and council would review HAB recommendations as part of ongoing housing policy work. No formal council action was taken at the meeting; the report was presented as an informational update and recorded in the consent/meeting materials.
