Boulder City Council read and adopted a declaration recognizing September 2025 as Pollinator Appreciation Month and announced the city's intention to join the Berlin Urban Nature Pact.
City manager staff highlighted that Boulder has banned neonicotinoid pesticides since 2014 and runs multiple local programs — including an annual bee festival, a pollinator advocates program, and biodiversity-oriented mosquito management — that staff said have reduced chemical use and advanced local conservation. “Our efforts... are now in their eleventh year of recognizing and celebrating our community efforts to protect biodiversity,” a city manager representative said.
Council Member Speer read the formal declaration, which cites the city’s work to protect habitat, the community’s collaboration with local groups (including Bee Chicas, Nature Everywhere Team, Play Foundation Tree Trust and Environment for the Americas Bird City), and the city’s plan to become a signer of the Berlin Urban Nature Pact. City staff identified specific departments contributing to the effort, including parks and recreation, open space and mountain parks, utilities, and transportation and mobility.
Mayor Erin Brockett signed the declaration on the dais and council acknowledged staff members and community partners present at the meeting. Staff said they will share more details with the public about what Berlin Urban Nature Pact membership will mean for Boulder at a future date.
