Moraga proclaims October 2025 National Bullying Prevention Month

Mayor Steve Walacky read a proclamation declaring October 2025 as National Bullying Prevention Month and encouraged local schools, families and organizations to promote kindness and prevention activities.

The proclamation said bullying — physical, verbal or emotional harm directed at a person or group — affects millions of American children and adolescents and can cause lasting physical, emotional and learning problems. The text noted bullying occurs in neighborhoods, schoolyards and on technology platforms and called on Moraga residents to “stand up to bullying, empower children to speak up and promote civility and compassion.”

The proclamation was presented to Wendell Baker of the Moraga I Kind Project, who told the council the group has issued the proclamation in Moraga for about a decade and distributed educational materials to the public. “I want to thank the town council very, very much for doing this proclamation,” Baker said.

Vice Mayor Carrie Hillis thanked Baker and the Moraga I Kind Project for returning each year and said the message is important for families. “As the father of three little kids, this is exactly the kind of message that our kids need to be hearing,” Hillis said. Mayor Walacky and other council members also praised the project and members of the public were invited to a photograph after the presentation.

The proclamation does not impose new regulations; it is an official recognition and encouragement for local groups and residents to increase awareness and prevention efforts during October 2025.
