Northampton County Executive Lamonti McClure on Monday proclaimed September 2025 as Suicide Prevention Month for Northampton County and called forward members of the county's suicide advisory task force and loss team to brief the council.
McClure read a proclamation recognizing suicide as a preventable public health issue and encouraged awareness, stigma reduction and use of resources such as the 988 crisis line. He invited director Wanda Lasky to describe the task force's recent work.
Lasky told council the task force, which formed in 2018, meets regularly and includes about 25 to 35 participants from local organizations, mental-health providers and volunteers. She highlighted QPR training (Question, Persuade, Refer) for community members and acknowledged partner organizations including Magellan and Gracedale in the county’s prevention work.
The council recognized representatives from the task force on the dais; officials said the county remains committed to outreach, training and collaborative prevention efforts.
No formal council vote was necessary for the proclamation.
