Conway parents board approves awning, paint changes at 314 Laurel Street

The City of Conway Community Parents Board on Tuesday approved a certificate of appropriateness allowing Southwark Investments LLC to replace the awning and repaint exterior trim at 314 Laurel Street.

Board members voted to approve the applicant’s proposal after staff presented a rendering showing a replacement awning of the same size and in the same location as the existing awning, but with a gray patterned fabric instead of the prior white backing with green striping. Staff said the change was intended to reduce an “ugly mildewy look” on the old awning. The applicant also proposed repainting exterior trim in Sherwin‑Williams “Iron Ore” and using “Halcyon” for the doors. Staff noted that the address numbers across the storefront are required for 911 purposes and therefore were treated separately from signage review.

Marsha (staff member) displayed the rendering and described the proposed materials. The applicant, identified in the transcript as Eric Bur Breast of Southwark Investments LLC, was present for the item. After a brief discussion, a board member moved to approve the certificate of appropriateness “as submitted.” The board approved the motion by voice vote; the minutes and the COA both passed by voice vote during the meeting.

Staff also reminded the board to submit items for a workshop that the board plans to hold immediately before the board’s next scheduled meeting; staff asked members to send topics by Friday and said the workshop is currently planned for 3 p.m. on that day. Staff said the workshop will be open to the public so applicants would not have to wait through the workshop if they did not wish to attend it.

Procedural business earlier in the meeting included approval of the minutes from the board’s August 13 meeting and a motion to adjourn.
