Carmel-by-the-Sea Community Activities Commission elects chair, agrees on new mission and tasks staff with event review

The Community Activities Commission on an unanimous roll-call vote appointed Maria Roos chair and Ellen Martin vice chair, approved minutes from its July 8 regular meeting and July 29 special meeting, and coalesced on a shorter mission statement while deferring a public identity survey in favor of an internal review of city events.

The election came during the meeting’s opening business; the commission voted “yes” on the motion to appoint Roos and Martin for one-year terms running through next May, the chair reported. The commission also approved the minutes from the July 8 regular meeting and the July 29 special meeting by roll-call vote.

Members then spent the bulk of the meeting revising the commission’s mission language and discussing two proposed community surveys — one about the commission’s role and another aimed at event attendees. Commissioners and staff agreed to postpone the broader public survey until commissioners have completed a more detailed review of events and event data.
