Clawson council discusses Halloween plans, tractor parade and treats

Councilmembers discussed plans and logistics for the town's traditional Halloween activities at the Sept. 11 meeting, focusing on tractor participation, distribution of candy and popcorn, and how to handle households that do not want to take part.

The presiding officer opened the topic by asking for ideas and noting there was no need to change the usual approach. Councilmember A raised a question about how to indicate homes that do not want to participate, saying, "The only thing I've thought about last year and I always forget is I wonder if we had to do something for those that don't wanna participate, if there was something we could put in their yards." Another councilmember noted residents typically notify organizers in advance if they do not participate.

The group reviewed participation by tractor drivers in prior years and identified five drivers from last year's event; one member said, "So you drove and I drove and I did. Jerry drove and Jesse drove." Members agreed five drivers had been sufficient in past years. Other logistical items discussed included borrowing a wagon/trailer for the procession and providing treat bags and popcorn for attendees. One councilmember said organizers were now handing out canned soda at some stops as a treat variation.
