Panther Hollow resident urges city to shut down skate park, plans Sept. 3 rally

Giampolo said the skate-park project was “outrageously illegal” and compared it to the “morally corrupt and disgraced Monoplin Connector project,” a project he said residents previously opposed. He told the council he and allied Italian heritage organizations will hold a rally on Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in front of the City-County Building at 414 Grant Street and directed listeners to pantherhollowplayground.com for details.
“The actions of council member Barbara Warwick in naming our playground was shameful,” Giampolo said, accusing skateboarders and others of taking control of the site and of a Pitt student overseeing construction and granting permission for spray-painting on Aug. 9. He called on council to “shut down the playground.”
Giampolo’s remarks were delivered during the public-comment portion of the Aug. 22 meeting; no formal council action on the skate park was recorded during the meeting.
City Council did not debate or vote on the skate park during the Aug. 22 session. The remarks were presented as a public appeal and as notice of a planned public demonstration. Council members present did not announce any immediate follow-up action on the record.
