Cobb Water Authority reports lower sales, outlines Cedar Crest and Stilesboro projects

A representative of the Cobb Water Authority briefed the Marietta City Council Agenda Work Session on financials through June and project updates, saying water sales were below budget and several capital projects remain underway.
The Water Authority reported average daily water sales of about 76 million gallons compared with a budgeted 89 million gallons, a shortfall that missed monthly budget expectations by roughly $1.2 million. Net income for the reporting month totaled about $4.6 million, about $255,000 below budget. Year‑to‑date capital project spending was reported at about $26.3 million with a remaining annual CIP commitment of about $65 million; available cash reserves for CIP were reported at roughly $54 million as of June.
On capital projects, staff said the Cedar Crest connector — a project that includes a 16‑inch and a 24‑inch water main — should be open by Aug. 1. Officials also updated the council on a National Park Service water-main replacement near Stilesboro Road: the Water Authority expects to finish its portion of the work by year‑end, but the Georgia Department of Transportation will then begin a larger road and roundabout project that will keep the corridor disrupted for “the next couple years,” the presenter said.
The authority also noted a pending Corals chemical building replacement project and that project cost estimates remain under development as prices continue to change.
No council vote was taken on the Water Authority report; the presentation was informational and included the financial snapshot and project timeline details.
