The York Suburban School District athletic department reported Aug. 11 that fall sports are underway and outlined several operational changes and personnel recommendations.
Athletics Director Mr. Mauer told the board that football and golf began last Monday and all other fall sports started that day. “This year, we will be transferring our ticket platform to Hometown Ticketing,” he said, describing the vendor as the official ticketing partner of PIAA District 3 and the YAIAA; he said the platform will provide a single, consistent experience for families across regular and postseason play.
Mr. Mauer also recommended on the meeting agenda the approval of Joseph Bentz as head swim coach. Mr. Mauer noted Bentz has four years’ experience with the program as an assistant coach and involvement with a local swim club; the nomination appeared on the agenda for approval but no vote is recorded in the transcript.
Booster-club activity and communication were a focus of discussion. Mr. Mauer said the athletic department is moving to one communication platform for coaches and families to reduce confusion from multiple apps; board members and staff referenced the Band app as a current channel booster groups use. Board member Mr. Sanders asked about engagement with feeder youth clubs and the process for youth teams to access district fields, saying the district should support affiliated youth programs so they can use facilities when not in conflict with middle- or high-school programs. Mr. Mauer said he is still learning the field-access process and will work with the board and staff on procedures.
No formal votes on the ticketing change, coaching nomination or field-access policy were recorded at the Aug. 11 meeting; Mr. Mauer said the boosters will maintain an email list and a Band app page for communications, and he encouraged parents to join booster communications.
