Staff reported that Power Design Incorporated holds two licenses in the same company name: license number 50842 (issued in February 2003) and license number 77333 (issued in 2022). Both licenses list the same qualifying agent and similar trade classifications. Agency staff flagged the duplication when permits and online filings triggered a review.
A staff speaker described the practical remedy: offer the company the option to volunteer surrender of the more recently issued license and merge classifications into the original license. Board members and staff discussed potential impacts on open permits, warranty items and contract continuity; staff said contracts would remain with the same legal entity if the licenses are issued to the same entity.
Board members proposed a timeline; the board asked staff to give the company 60 days to respond and to return to the board if the company does not accept the voluntary option. The board moved and approved a motion that, if the qualifying agent and company complete the merge before the next meeting, no further action is necessary; otherwise, staff should open a complaint against the 2022 license for issuance in the same name overlapping the existing license.
Board members noted similar situations have been resolved previously when local permitting offices flagged the discrepancy and applicants merged licenses voluntarily. Staff said the board relies primarily on secretary-of-state filings rather than federal ID numbers for identification.
