Council unanimously approves consent calendar including authorization to solicit bids for Ronald Reagan Skate Park

The Temecula City Council voted unanimously, 5–0, to approve the consent calendar that included a motion to "approve plans and specifications and authorize the solicitation of construction bids for the Ronald Reagan Sports Park Skate Park, PW 22-07."

After the roll call vote the council requested a brief staff report on the skate park. A city staff presenter described the final rendering and recounted the community involvement process that led the council to keep the promised design rather than a reduced alternative.

On cost and schedule the staff presentation included the project's current financial summary: design, environmental and administration costs of $823,909; a construction estimate of $5,100,000 (engineer's estimate shown at about $4.1 million in staff materials); and a total CIP budget of $6,100,000 that incorporates $2,000,000 previously authorized at the budget workshop. The staff member said the anticipated procurement schedule is advertising in September, opening bids in October, awarding a construction contract and starting work at the beginning of the year, with roughly a nine-month construction timeline.

Council members asked about alternative skate venues for skaters while the Ronald Reagan site is closed; staff identified Long Canyon Skate Park as a likely nearby alternative and indicated the city will plan for overflow use at other parks.

Ending: Staff said they will return with bid results and a recommended contract award; the council's approval sends the project to public procurement.
