Clinton City Council certifies Aug. 12 municipal primary; four nominees advanced to November ballot

The Clinton City Council, acting as the board of canvassers, unanimously certified the results of the Aug. 12, 2025 municipal primary at its Aug. 26 meeting and adopted Resolution 0925 listing nominees for the November ballot.
A city staff member who attended the county audit reported turnout and ballot totals from the Davis County Clerk and Auditor: Clinton had 12,238 registered voters; 2,711 ballots were cast (22.15% turnout), with 2,675 mail ballots and 36 in‑person votes on election day. The staff member reported 26 ballots were not counted (24 late, one blank envelope and one without verifiable identity). The staff member said she had observed the county’s public audit procedures and described the workflow for signature verification and a hand count that is compared with electronic results.
The council then considered a resolution to certify the county-provided canvass results and to declare nominees for the November ballot. A council member moved to “certify the results of the 08/12/2025 Clinton City Municipal Primary Election as provided by the Davis County Clerk and Auditor and declare the following candidates nominated to appear on the November ballot: Adam B. Larson, Chris Stanson, Jennifer Steele Christiansen, and Zachary M. Hatch.” A second was made and, by roll call, the council voted unanimously to approve the resolution and sign the certificate.
The council’s record of ballots cast and the candidate totals were recorded for the public record: Jennifer Steele Christiansen — 944; Robert Lee Everhard — 143; Shelby Montgomery — 417; Adam B. Larson — 1,280; Cameron M. Frick — 164; Gary Lee Tyler — 398; Zachary M. Hatch — 596; Chris Danson — 1,044. The city staff member said she would post the full canvass report to the city website and make a hard copy available for public inspection.
During the discussion council members noted changes in state law affecting mail ballots and urged voters to deposit mailed ballots earlier or use drop boxes; staff noted ballots are now required to be received by election day rather than merely postmarked.
