Wayzata board approves Policy 607 establishing school‑calendar timeline guidance

The Wayzata Public Schools Board of Education voted to adopt Policy 607 (School Calendar) at its regular meeting on Aug. 11.
Superintendent Chase Anderson told the board Policy 607 provides guidance for “how and when the timelines are for the development of the school calendar,” rather than adopting a specific academic calendar. The policy was reviewed through the district’s regular policy cycle and by the policy committee, Anderson said.
After a motion to approve and a second, the board conducted a roll‑call vote. Board members voting yes were Valentina Ayers, Dan Genestra, Sarah Johansen, Paras Bende, Sheila Pryor and Milan Sahony; Heidi Kader was absent. The board chair declared the motion passed.
During the discussion trustees thanked the policy committee — identified in the meeting as Paras Bende, Valentina Ayers and Sheila Pryor — for their work on the review. The policy materials were described as based on the Minnesota School Boards Association model and reviewed by district stakeholders and the policy committee. No amendments were offered during the meeting.
The adopted policy sets procedures and timelines for calendar development and does not itself set term dates or specific instructional days; those details remain subject to future administrative proposals and board action.
