Superintendent reports 600 students in football, facility repairs; board approves consent agenda and personnel report

The Lawton Public Schools superintendent reported high fall football participation and recent facility work, and the school board approved the consent agenda and a personnel report in unanimous roll-call votes.

During the superintendent's report the district said more than 300 students are out for high school football and more than 300 for junior-high football — a combined figure the presenter described as roughly 600 students. "We have 600 students at Lawton Public Schools playing football this year, which I just told them that's a win to me," the superintendent said.

The superintendent also reported that girls' locker rooms are open and that transportation staff have largely managed morning and afternoon routes despite some "hiccups," praising bus and transportation staff for getting students to school. The district said car-line complaints have decreased compared with prior years.

District maintenance staff reported repairs to the LRC parking lot to address potholes and reconstruction of the sidewalk between the high school locker room and the practice field to improve student safety when moving between parking and athletic areas. The meeting record characterizes those repairs as near-term fixes ahead of the school year.

Board business that followed included routine votes. A motion to approve the consent agenda passed on a roll call. The board then took a motion to approve the superintendent's personnel report; that motion also passed on roll call.
