Sunnyvale Town Council voted 6-0 to pass the second reading of an ordinance adopting Republic Services’ annual price adjustment, a 4.9% increase tied to the consumer price index and effective Oct. 1. The council approved the pass-through of the increase to customers as required by the town’s contract with Republic Services.
Republic Services municipal manager Christy Grama told the council the 4.9% figure is a rolling 12-month CPI calculation. "This year, it's a 4.9% increase, effective October 1 on all of those rates," she said. Mikaela, town staff, introduced the company presentation and noted the increase is included in the utility/solid-waste contract terms; town attorneys advised that rejecting the contractor's contractual CPI adjustment could put the town in breach of contract.
