District leaders reported on student services, technology staffing and upcoming prevention events.
The superintendent reported that the Department of Student Services is focusing on professional development and individual learning profiles for special-education staff; adherence to individualized education programs (IEPs) "remains the top priority." The superintendent said CLAC, the parent group for special education, will attend open houses to increase family engagement. A pathways classroom at an elementary school launched this year, and the district purchased specialized curriculum for students on alternate assessments.
On technology, the district has not yet filled its technology director position but is interviewing next week and will continue to use longstanding consultant Jim Lass to support infrastructure and building-project technology planning. Officials noted an operational issue ahead: Microsoft will end Windows 10 support in October, and the district is preparing contingency plans for classroom machines.
On prevention, committee members said the district is marking Suicide Prevention Month and that a Prevention Coalition family day is scheduled for Oct. 11 at Second Beach, with activities including bouncy houses, food trucks and a rock-climbing station offered by the National Guard.
Dr. Leslie Brough, the district's director of student services, was not present at the meeting; updates were provided by the superintendent.
